An unforgettable fishing adventure at the Red Cariboo Resort

During my stay at the Red Cariboo Resort in June 2022, I felt an overwhelming desire: I finally wanted to go fishing for real. The resort, surrounded by majestic nature, is perfectly equipped for it. We have two motorboats and 12 canoes and kayaks available for rent, as well as rental fishing equipment.

We have a boat trailer to transport the motorboats to a custom fishing spot, and Axel is an expert at launching the boats. You can also set off fishing with the canoes/kayaks directly from our accommodations without having to drive, as both the apartments and the resort have a small harbor right on the water with a jetty.

Our guests only have to take care of the fishing license themselves, or since you can apply for one online, we are happy to assist you at the reception.

Surrounding the resort are numerous bodies of water just waiting to be explored – notably the enchanting Anahim Lake, the tranquil Dean River, and Kappan Lake, all perfect for fishing. There are a variety of fish to catch, especially rainbow trout and salmonids. Fly fishing is especially popular in this area.

Kappan Recreation Site East

Axel granted my wish, so we decided to spend a day fishing on Kappan Lake. Although it was already June and the sun shone, the morning greeted us with a bitterly cold chill. After a leisurely 30-minute drive, we reached Kappan Lake. There's a simple campsite, the Kappan Recreation Site East, with an outhouse, several fire pits with seating, and a boat ramp/slip.

Axel and his friend Dave professionally launched the boat, and soon we were cruising across the lake's shimmering surface. It didn't take long for me to understand how much patience fishing requires. We cruised slowly across the lake, repeatedly casting our lines and enjoying the peaceful ambiance of the lake in the sunshine.

The scenery was simply breathtaking! Kappan Lake stretched over 5.7 square kilometers, surrounded by pristine nature. There was no soul or a house in sight, just pure natural beauty. With its snow-capped peak, the majestic Kappan Mountain towered like a sentinel over the lake to the southwest, and a small island in the middle of the water completed the perfect picture.
In fact, at lunchtime, we were joined by two other anglers in a boat, and a seaplane practiced several landings and takeoffs nearby, which further entertained us.

Fishing at Kappan Lake

We returned in the early afternoon with a proud haul of five fish. Dave skillfully lit a fire, and soon we were grilling our freshly caught rainbow trout on a fire pit right on the shore – they tasted delicious!

It was a wonderful day filled with great conversations, surrounded by the soothing tranquility of nature and no distracting cell phone reception. The experience was made even more unforgettable when we spotted a small bear on the way back to the resort.
Thus, fishing at Kappan Lake was not just a day by the water but a walk through the wonders of nature. I can't wait to return to this place again soon.
